Fibre vs Fiber:
Fibre Channel was designed to support fiber optic cabling only. But industry also started using copper cables later to avoid the damage due to heat produced in storage systems.
The committee decided to keep the name Fibre (UK English) for referring a standard and Fiber (US English) for referring fiber optics and cabling.
